Bliss

Today I figured out what my version of total bliss is.
Or, at least, what total bliss looked like today.

Today, I made soup.  Which is not really a new thing for me... I make soup nearly every week.  But there was something special about today.  While I had the windows open in the kitchen, the dogs snoozing by my feet {they are always in the way!}, I was really appreciating this quiet Saturday I had stretched out in front of me.

I had already done the grocery shopping.  Laundry was working in the basement.  I had some quiet reading time first thing in the morning, with my cup of coffee.

So it struck me, when I got home and did a few chores, that I had some space for myself.  And I made the decision to make soup.

I stuck a yam in the oven to bake, caramelized some onions, and chopped up celery root, carrots, and parsnips.  Everything was happily going on it's own.  That's the really great thing about soups, they don't require a whole lot of care.  Of course, caramelizing onions takes some doing but it's lovely and therapeutic. And while that was all working, I did some dishes and made myself a fabulous lunch.

I call it my "European Lunch" because if I live in Italy I imagine all of my lunches might look like this:
*quality cheese
*crispy crackers
*orange slices
*marinated assorted Greek olives

Of course, I got all fancy with my orange and actually sliced the peel off {it was naked anyway because I used the zest in the soup} with my knife and made it look all professional.  My fresca might have taken away from the picture a bit though.

And while I was cooking my soup and eating my little luncheon, classical music was wafting from the living room.

Total bliss.

Now, how can I make a living from that???

  1. Love this! It's always so great when you find time for yourself!

I felt similar yesterday. The prompt for photo a day April, was how you feel. And when I saw my candle that said peaceful, that was just it. It was a good day yesterday! = )
