And Now A Word From Our Sponsors {Andrea}

Hey Finding Myself readers! Andrea here again, visiting from Love is...

About a week ago, Maggie put a tweet out to her sponsors looking for guest posters. Which reminded me I should do the same thing... So be on the look out for that e-mail Maggie! = )

Maggie said I could post about whatever, or she would give me a topic. So I took the grab bag & this is what Maggie gave me... A post about the types of posts I like to read vs. the ones I skip.

Interesting, right?! Um, yeah! So here goes!

And just a little disclaimer... This is by no means the end all by all, of what posts should be. It's just my, oh so humble opinion. I by no means want to offend anyone or hurt feelings!

Alright, here goes.

Posts I read...

REAL POSTS

Posts where the blogger is truly open & honest about whatever it is they're blogging about. As a reader, it helps you connect so much more & feel like you really know the person. Now, I'm not saying you need to share your address & social security number here. But when you can be real & honest with your readers, it just makes it so much easier to connect with them. TRUTH: I didn't always blog like this. I just recently started realizing how important it was. And I feel like my blog & I, have improved because of it.

Here's just a sample of some of my favorite bloggy friends that let it all out...

You know her well, Maggie @ Finding Myself,
Emily @ Hope Squared,
Erin @ Living In Yellow,
And Jen @ Punky and the City.

POSTS WITH PICTURES

Open & honest posts are great.

Open & honest posts with pictures, are that much better!

You can still be open & honest, (I'll stop saying that so much, promise), & funny at the same time. Throw a funny/relevant/any kind of picture you want, into that post. It really makes it more fun to read & visually helps break things up. When I click on a post & it's just a whole mess of text, 9 times out of 10, I skip it. Sad, but true. Whilst blogging, I want to be entertained. And although you may be the bestest writer out there, reading a novella blog post with no pictures, can put this girl to sleep. *Insert funny picture here*

So, sometimes you're slightly intoxicated at your brother & sister in-laws wedding & they start playing a Brittney Spears song. At which time you start serenading your soon to be hubby. And he loves it. Every. Second. Of. It. = )
Oh & P.S. I will never get a spray tan again... Bad choice!

Funny? I think so.
Relevant? Not at all.
Is that okay? Yup!

SPEAKING OF FUNNY...

You're funny right? The comedic relief in your social circle & that go to girl for a great story &/or joke? So you should probably show that to your readers. This goes back to the being open & honest, thing. When I laugh out loud at a blog post & interrupt my husband from watching his hunting show, to tell him about it, that's a good thing! Well, maybe not for him... But oh well! = ) Be yourself & if you're funny, let it show. People will love you for it, promise!

Posts I skip...

I feel like this is a hard one for me. The posts I skip, usually have NOTHING to do with what the post is about. Rather, I'm just not in the mood to read about it at that time. And this varies day by day.

Sometimes I want to read your outfit post. Other times, I could care less.
Sometimes I love a recipe post. Other times, it's not for me.
Sometimes I like seeing what you linked up for... Every day. Other times, I don't see the point.

Do you see what I'm saying? I have a bit of an issue - I'm aware. P.S. I've done ALL of the above, so I'm not knocking anyone. Nope, not at all.

To sum it up...

  • I'm a total lover of  lifestyle blogs. I like the variety of them - Talks on mommy hood one day, a great travel post the next & a honest post about depression the next day. It keeps it interesting for me & I like that you don't know what you're going to find each day.  I typically don't follow strictly fashion/makeup/hair/food etc. blogs, for this reason.
  • I've learned I'm not a huge fan of blogs where all they do is link up for things. TRUTH: This was my blog not to long ago. And I realized there really wasn't much content there. Not for me & not for my readers. I have more to share then something in a link up & I decided it was time to show that.

So what do you read & what do you skip?

Thanks for having me & giving me such a great topic, Maggie! I appreciate it! = )

And, dear readers mine, please be sure to check out "Love Is..." today because I'm guest posting there right now!  Go go!

  1. I totally agree with what you said here! I love reading real posts. The outfit posts & pinterest posts, I could take them or leave them. But posts about real life.. those I am drawn towards. And funny stories. Those too!

  2. I can't stand a pinterest post. I mean i have pinterest. If I like it - I will pin it. If I like you I will follow you. I don't need to see a repeat of all the things you wish you had. I love a funny post. The ones that make milk squirt out your nose. I don't drink milk so this never happens. It's usually beer. I have a problem. How do you feel about drunk posts? I probably have a few of those.

Great tips Andrea! Everyone should read this.

  3. Well said, Andrea. I love the true glimpse into someone's life. If they are not willing to be raw and self-deprecating, it's no fun.

    Cheers,
    Em
